This charming and well sought after village had a population of 316 in the 2001 Census. The village has a Riding School and a Public House named The Ship Inn. |
|
The Church is dedicated to St Helen and was built around the 16th century and is a lovely, mainly stone building, consisting of a nave and
a square embattled tower which contains the three bells said to be about four hundred years old |
| |
The
Church is behind a wall of trees, which looks lovely but doesn't lend itself to an easy photograph. |
| |
The
tower was rebuilt in 1901 at a cost of around one thousand
pounds. |
| |
The
village features an obelisk situated opposite the Church,
which was erected in memory of William Smith, who fell from
his horse whilst serving as a huntsman to the Earl of Yarborough. He
died on 11th April, 1845. |
