This village dates back to around 1202 when the Earl of Brittany's son founded a priory.

The church of St Martin was entirely rebuilt in 1857, but there was originally a norman church on the site. A stained glass window is dedicated to the memory of Rev J Parkinson and situated in the east end of the church, he was responsible to raising the cost of the rebuild (1,400) mainly by subscription
The school was built in 1856. Numbers at the rural school have gone between thirteen and one hundred and twenty, due to the farming activities in the area, children stayed home to help on the land as and when required in the past.
